Here is a view from the "back" of the island -- as you would see it from the kitchen. There would be a counter on top of it, running up against the wall, and a smaller countertop on top of the wall.

Also, the cupboard in the middle will have a normal looking door style (same as the others), and the handle will be on the top as well. That may be something we need to do ourselves, though. We will already have to create a toe kick for that cabinet. The reason why we don't have one for it is because the line of cabinets that we chose to go with didn't have a door-only base cabinet.. the closest they had was a door with a drawer on top, and obviously that drawer would be non-functional if we got it (with the overhanging countertop in the way).
