We continued running wires this week, including electrical, CATV, LAN, phone, security, and speaker wires. Tim's buddy from the National Guard, Dave, came over to show us where the security wires should run. Ron came over for a few minutes with Grandpa, to give some advice about running the electrical wires to the kitchen island.
We decided to run CATV to the lower garage in case we ever want to use it some day, and phone (actually, Cat5e most likely to be used for phone) to the lower garage and the upstairs laundry room.
Since I haven't mentioned it yet, the plan for the speaker wires is to have a central distributing point (speaker amplifier/splitter) for each floor (above and below the stairs), and run 4 conductor 16 awg wire to each room to hookup volume controls. Then 2 conductor wire will go from there to two places in the ceiling in each room where the speakers will reside (built-in, eventually). That way you can play music through the receiver and split it, so it will pump the tunes through the whole house, with controllable volume in each room! Five 4 conductor wires will run between the upstairs and downstairs central locations, to have the ability to play throughout the house instead of just one floor.
The only thing left before putting on a floor is reinstalling the ductwork, rerouting the kitchen drain/vent PVC pipes, and insulating! (That's only for the kitchen/LR/DR though) |
